Many pet health problems start as or are influenced by behavior issues, and even a healthy pet may have behavior problems that disrupt home and family life.

Lake Mills Veterinary Clinic has two behavioral trainers who will help you understand your pet's behavior. From puppy preschool to tricks training, we offer fun, hands-on classes (basic through advanced) for dogs of all ages. We can also help with problem behaviors like barking, pulling at the leash and jumping up on people.

Weighing your options? Not all behavior and training classes are created equally. Instructor certification, experience and choice of techniques vary widely. Click here to learn why we think we're among the best.

Let us help you turn your dog into a polite family pet who is fun to have around!

Family Dog Manners Classes

Next series starts: Tuesday, 10 July, 7:30-8:30pm

Since 2007, we have offered Family Dog Manners classes at the Lake Mills Veterinary Clinic.

Miss out on puppy preschool? A misbegotten childhood is not a total disaster. This class will help you teach your dog using fun, reward-based methods.

In our classes, dogs learn good social skills toward other dogs and people, including how to sit nicely instead of jumping up on people to greet them.

We discuss house manners, and address common problems like chewing inappropriate objects (the couch) or toilet training.

We also learn basic cues: sit, down, stand, come when called, walk nicely on a leash, stay, wait, drop it, leave it, and watch me.

Our classes are developed by a certified trainer (CPDT-KA) and taught by two experienced instructors, to ensure safety and lots of one-on-one time with you and your dog.

Family dog manners classes are 6 weeks in length. Each lesson lasts about an hour. We limit the class to a maximum of 6 dogs. The class fee is $120, which includes all lessons, your handbook and graduation materials.

Classes fill quickly, so reservations are required. Please call (920-648-2421) or email us to claim your spot!

From sassy adolescents to mature-age mutts, this class benefits dogs of all ages. We've had students older than 8 years of age, proving you can teach an old dog new tricks!

Puppy Preschool classes

Next series starts: Tuesday, 10 July, 6:15-7:15pm

Puppies need to learn some important skills, including comfort with handling, appropriate play and good manners. You also need to ensure your puppy is well socialized. Experts say puppies should meet at least 100 different people and a wide variety of friendly dogs before the age of four months.

We will teach you these skills as well as training basics like sit, down, stay, wait, walk nicely on a leash, come when called, leave it and canine good manners.

Our classes are developed by a certified trainer (CPDT-KA) and taught by two experienced instructors, to ensure safety and lots of one-on-one time with you and your puppy.

Come join us for the best start in life for your puppy!

Our Puppy Preschool classes are a 5-week series for puppies 8 weeks to 4 months of age. Each lesson lasts about an hour. We limit class size to 8 puppies. The cost of the series is $125, and includes all lessons, your handbook, weekly take-home handouts and graduation materials.

Beyond Basics classes

2012 series start dates: May 23 and July 18. Classes will meet Wednesdays, 6:00pm-7:00pm.

Each summer, we offer a special series called Beyond Basics. The lessons are conducted at outdoor locations around Lake Mills, and are designed to take advantage of the distractions those environments offer.

Using games, tricks and other fun activities, we teach our dogs how to concentrate on us, even when there are lots of other things going on. This class is fun for dogs and people alike, and helps give your dog real-life skills to apply what they've learned in more basic classes.

Activities include come when called, leash manners, leave it, wait, remote cues, distance cues, and tricks training.

Prerequisite: Puppy Preschool and Family Dog Manners, or instructor approval.

Our classes are developed by a certified trainer (CPDT-KA) and taught by two experienced instructors, to ensure safety and lots of one-on-one time with you and your dog.

Beyond Basics is a 5-week series, with options offered in May and July. The cost of the series is $100, which includes all lessons, written take-home resources, and graduation materials.

This class is heavily in demand each year. If you think you're ready to sign up, please call (920-648-2421) or email us to claim your spot!
